Logline: The idyllic relationship between two 15 year old
teenagers, is thrown into turmoil when one of their family decides to move
abroad.
Mission Statement: Too Young For Love Ltd and the Producers seek to
produce a drama short with the high artistic and production qualities of a
studio film at a fraction of the cost.
Hence the company seeks to have the film released in a
significant number of theatres in the UK, across North America and around the
world, to all viable markets and platforms, ultimately earning a profit.
ROSE DOZIE and EKON IGWE (15), are blissfully
in love. They attend the same school and have so much in common, including
their talent to create music and their desire to make it as stars with Rose’s
vocal prowess and Ekon’s masterful instrument playing. They plan to write hit
songs, save money earned by busking and buy their own house, have a top of the
range car, plus 2.4 kids.
Rose’s dad, CARL DOZIE (50s), had tried in
his younger years, to be a singer and failed. Knowing the pitfalls of the
industry, Carl strongly dissuades Rose from that path drumming into her that
education is paramount and to leave any notion of ‘stardom’ in the ether where
it belongs.
Despite Carl being against Rose’s career
choice, he’s also against her relationship with Ekon, but together, the
teenagers can deal with all negativity thrown at them because they have each
other.
The idyllic life of the love-struck couple
is thrown into turmoil when Ekon’s family decide to leave the UK and rescind
their citizenship. The couple are distraught and they hatch a plan in which
Ekon will run away and not return to Arochukwu, Nigeria with his family, where
he was born.
As his parents return home, Ekon makes the
streets of Acton his. Occasionally, he’s able to stay with Rose by sneaking
into the family home late at night after her parents retire, but too often,
that is scuppered when Carl, oblivious to their activity, stays up late,
thwarting the only way that Ekon has a bed to sleep in.
Ekon realised that running away would mean
no longer being able to attend school, as that would lead to a social worker
getting involved and his deportation. For six months, bolstered by the deep
emotions he has for Rose, Ekon tries to make it on the streets, sleeping rough,
washing cars to earn money, enduring a skin infection contracted due to his
harsh circumstances. Rose helps when she can, giving him food, offering to run
away with him, but they decide it best that Rose stay in school and pass her exams.
The two meet at their favourite café with
pressing news to share. Ekon has learnt from a prospective employer that being
under 18 as a runaway, there is an automatic warrant out for his arrest.
Realising he won’t be able to get legitimate work, he Independently decides
that the life he and Rose had planned, can no longer come to pass. He wants
Rose to be with someone who can give her the world she deserves. He has called
the police letting them know where he will be to arrest him.
Ekon has been given a mobile in exchange
for work. He writes his number on a napkin for Rose as he relays his decision,
only to learn from Rose that she is pregnant. He has immediate regret, but it’s
too late. He tries to run, but the police arrive. Rose is angry at Ekon for
taking the unilateral decision to give himself up and vows never to forgive him
as he’s arrested, dragged away and deported.
Carl and VANESSA, Rose’s mother, are
against her keeping the baby. They give her an ultimatum, abort the child or
get out of their house. Rose chooses the latter.
Rose experiences the harshness on the
streets as Ekon did. She sleeps on park benches and has their baby in a shop
doorway. Knowing that she will be unable to raise her child, Rose calls Ekon in
Nigeria, gets his voice mail, and leaves a message telling him of her actions,
that she will leave their baby in a telephone box. She watches until a WOMAN
hears the baby cry and takes her.
Rose walks away in the opposite
direction.

With statistics for teenage homelessness,
pregnancies and adoption of their children, escalating at alarming rates, I was
intrigued to show characters facing these situations and how they would deal
with these emotional, physical and emotional calamities.
Having left home at 15, I fell pregnant aged 16
and I had my child at 17. The father was 4 years older and therefore
technically, this was statutory rape, but we were in love and as far as we were
concerned, the world misunderstood the true essence and depths of our
relationship.
Due to being 21, the father of my child was
able to get a council flat, but I had always wondered what may have happened if
we were both 15, or indeed, if I had been alone and forced to take another
path?
What if two 15-year-olds had done nothing wrong, but fall in love with
each other? What if, in having their own baby, they were faced with
insurmountable dilemmas which pushed them to make various life changing
decisions? How would they survive? What would the consequences of their actions
be? Does love really conquer all regardless of age, wealth and health.
The backdrop is the residential suburb of
Acton, West London where elegant terraced Edwardian and Victorian houses line
paved streets away from the built-up tower blocks in the nearby South Acton
Estate, a concrete jungle. ‘Too Young For Love’ explores the effects of broken
hearts and dreams in two in two well behaved Black characters from middle-class
families, who want nothing, but to be together and the lengths they pursue to
maintain their unity.
My aim is to exacerbate any complacency
with regard to teen love, pull on the heart strings of the viewer, start or
continue deep dialogues with all watch the drama which will honestly reflect
the raw realities of life on the streets.
‘Too Young For Love’ culminates with
the baby the love bird teenagers create being left in a telephone box for
another to raise.
The short is the prequel to ‘United Kingdom Reparations’, a
feature which starts with that baby being found and follows that child’s life
as she matures and becomes a barrister.
She finds her father in Nigeria and
together they trace and unravel a family history embroiled in the ravages of
the slave trade.
Distribution Plan
Too Young For Love is an English language short film
to be delivered to market in digital format. The film is intended to be
distributed throughout the UK, Europe, North America, Canada and to all other
viable global markets.
In addition to first run domestic theatrical
distribution, the Producer intends to fully exploit the following
opportunities.

The Producer will appoint a Sales Agent and
Distribution who will be present at the following film festivals: Cannes,
Sundance, AFM, LFF, Canada, Berlin and BFI.
Marketing Plan
The Producer is confident that in appointing a PR
company such as Premiere, we shall be able to publicise Too Young For Love via
the following outlets: Broadcast network programs in the US and UK including
(but not limited to): Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross, This Morning, Daybreak, The
One Show, Loose Women, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show
with Jimmy Fallon; Wendy Williams, syndicated broadcast programs including (but
not limited to): The View, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Live with Kelly and Ryan,
Entertainment Tonight.

real-life existences and get imbued in the magic of movies. We are aiming for a
theatrical release, along with selling to streaming services who have a captive
audience, vying for and in need of a constant stream of original content.

and Caribbean, bringing experience in film, tv and stage to this moving piece
of art.

experiences to help her bring the script to life through the hand-picked actors.
